A total of 50 medical students vied for the eight positions.
The interns have been selected through NSW Health’s Rural Preferential Recruitment program, coordinated by the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) which determines the number of places available.
Dubbo Hospital prevocational education and training director Dr Jeniffer Fiore-Chapman said Dubbo was fast becoming a highly sought-after placement.
“We interviewed 50 medical students for eight posts – our highest ever number of applicants indicating the highly competitive nature of our positions," she said.
“It is encouraging to see we are starting to grow our own with new recruits from the School of Rural Health at The University of Sydney.”
She especially welcomed three interns from the local area who were joining Dubbo Health Service – Lars Newman who was born and bred in Dubbo, Narromine’s Angus Webb and Orange’s Michelle Jayasuriya.
