Macquarie White was the latest side to feel the brunt of Nelson’s power, with the CYMS White skipper making 105 as his side scored a 115-run win at Lady Cutler South 3.
Gilbert Chaseling made 41 and Jarrod Peachey chipped in with 22 but it was all about Nelson, who got off the mark with a six and then continued on his way, hitting fourteen boundaries and four sixes.
Most Macquarie bowlers were hit around but Ben Calder stood out, taking 2/26, including the key wicket of Nelson, from his eight overs as CYMS made 227.
Nelson’s son Patty then shone with the ball for CYMS White, taking 3/15 as Macquarie White was dismissed for just 112. Cody Green (17) and Evan McMullen (16) were the top-scorers.
RSL-Colts Red moved into equal second on Saturday after scoring a convincing nine wicket-win over Rugby Blue.
Dane McCullagh (3/25), Bailey Collins (2/12) and Mike Parish (2/14) all bowled well as Rugby Blue was rolled for just 82, with Dale Watmore’s 39 the only meaningful score. It was then a routine run chase as Pat Cuskelly (54 not out) blasted his side to a win while Mike Coward (25 not out) played a support role.
James Amey produced a powerful knock for Newtown Gold to help his side push towards a top five spot.
Amey hit 91, including nine fours and two sixes, as Newtown Gold piled on 8-203 from 40 overs, despite South Dubbo Green’s Brad Murray taking 4/24 from his eight overs.
Ty Webb (3/17) and Josh Battishall (2/21) then stood out with the ball for the Gold Tigers as Souths Green was knocked over for 134. Josh Byrne’s 28 was the top score.
Rugby Red’s batsman fired on Saturday during a comfortable 66-run win over RSL-Colts White.
Josh Connolly top-scored with 52 while Ross Horrocks made 48 and Ben Rosenbaum chipped in with 33 in the total of 5-209.
Five separate bowlers took wickets for RSL-Colts White, whose batsman toughed it out in reply but struggled to get on the attack.
Jake Coggan top scored with 37 while there promise shown by a number of batsman, despite the fact Colts White was restricted to 7-143 from its 40 overs.
CYMS Green stuttered to its second straight loss on Saturday when going down to Macquarie Blue by three wickets. Batting first, things didn’t begin well for CYMS Green as they slumped to 5-23, largely in part to Matt Ball’s opening spell.
Luckily for the Cougars, the tail wagged with Jackson Peacock (26) and Brian Carroll (23) top scoring late on, while Ball finished with 4/22.
Defending 120, CYMS needed early wickets but Dave Murray (32) and Luke Patis (15) made a solid start to the chase.
The Cougars took wickets through the middle but the Blues were always in control, especially while Jordan Flemming (33) was at the crease.
Carroll (3/10) struck twice late but the Blues were fairly comfortable winners.
A strong effort with the ball and a blasting 63 not out from Kevin Newbold helped Newtown Black score victory over South Dubbo Gold at Lady Cutler South 1.
Will English took 4/32 while Scott Barber (3/19) and Jack Pettit (2/35) also impressed as the Hornets were rolled for 118, with Matt Wakely top scoring with 21 from number 10.
Newtown Black was reduced to 3-29 early in reply, Saad Khan (2/37) the main threat, but then Newbold and Brett Wrigley turned the game back in the Tigers’ favour.
Newbold hit six boundaries and five sixes in his 63 not out while Wrigley finished 41 not out in the win.
