After scoring a win in the opening match of the season the Crackerjacks suffered a loss in their second match back in December.
But on Friday night the side showed its more than capable of making a serious run in the Twenty20 tournament by defeating the talented Blasters by 47 runs.
Batting first at No. 1 Oval, the Crackerjacks made a strong start with Anthony Heraghty taking 10 off the first over.
There was a setback next over when Marty Jeffrey’s spin removed Ed Haylock (0) and while Jason Green (8) also departed within five overs, the runs continued to flow.
Heraghty (23) was dismissed by Caudwell but Ricky Medway was beginning to blast away at the other end.
Greg Buckley (3-11) was the standout bowler and performed well through the middle overs but Medway found support in Ben Taylor and the two began to take the Blasters attack apart.
Taylor was particularly brutal in the super over, hitting Sam Bass for 12 twice on his way to finishing 51 not out.
Medway also made 51, falling to Nathan Jones (2-31) late on, as the Crackerjacks finished at 7-162.
In reply, the Blasters lost Buckley on the very first ball and things didn’t get better from there as Wes Giddings (1) and Jason Ryan (2) each fell in the second over from James Hughes.
At 3/3 the Blasters were immediately under the pump and suddenly it was 5/19 as Morton brothers Chris (11) and Graeme (0) came and went.
Marty Jeffrey dug in but he received very little support from the lower order.
Taylor entered the attack late on to make sure of the result. He claimed 3/22 from his four overs to cap off a fine individual match.
Shane Dupille (2/8) claimed the last wicket while James Hughes (3/3) was the other standout bowler.
Jeffrey proved the lone shining light in the Blasters’ innings, finishing with a fighting 64 not out as his side was dismissed for 115.
