The Dubbo-raised woman added Blade Runner 2049 to her career highlights in 2016.
Alexi has established a place for herself in the industry, working in the prop department of feature films since moving to Los Angeles in 2011.
As she travels to sets across the world she’s lovingly encouraged by her parents Bob and Julie Wilson of Dubbo.
While they’ve enjoyed reunions in other countries, it was Alexi who travelled to them recently because “nothing beats coming home to a summer Christmas”.
Twin sister Georgia and younger brothers Lindsay and Patrick, also twins, were there to help her celebrate an “incredible” 2016.
“I got to live in Budapest where we were shooting Blade Runner 2049 and also travel Europe on my weekends and time off,” Alexi said.
“Couldn’t really ask for a better work/life experience.”
Since her big move to LA, the passionate artist has worked on Oblivion, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, War for the Planet of the Apes, and now the Blade Runner 2049 project.
The exhilaration she finds in her work as props coordinator is evident.
“Being allowed to be creative in my job, and being able to actually produce practical items for film is so much fun,” she said.
“Props play a big part in films – and it's hard not to appreciate what you do when people are so excited by what you’ve made, or what they’ve seen, or what their favourite actor has held in their hands on the big screen.
“But also a huge reward is seeing how the entire film comes together in the end.
“You spend almost a year with the same people, across all film departments, all working towards a common goal, to make this film, and you become like family, and you want to see each other succeed – so watching the final result of all those hours, days, weeks, months you spent as a team really is hugely satisfying.”
The 2004 dux of Dubbo College, Alexi graduated from the University of Technology Sydney.
“Part of growing up in a remote area probably means that when the opportunity in LA presented itself – I knew I had to run with it and give it my all (and I still do)… because that sort of thing doesn’t come around too often,” she said.
Now Alexi is looking forward to new projects.
“I’m not sure what 2017 holds yet… but that’s part of the excitement of this career path for me,” she said.
“I’ll be hoping to spend the year on another feature film – something creatively challenging, inspiring and hopefully somewhere in the world that will be new to explore.”
