That’s the message Dubbo Regional Council manager social services John Watts has for those thinking of vandalising Dubbo’s Christmas decorations.

“We’ve had a couple of incidents where people have posted to Facebook taking trophies from the CBD so we just want to get the word out there to say ‘we’re watching you’,” Mr Watts said.

There is CCTV throughout Dubbo’s main thoroughfare, Mr Watts said, and a $2,500 reward for any information of vandalism against council property that leads to a conviction.

“This includes any equipment, shrubs, trees and plants in parks and gardens, public recreation areas, streets and other public places in the Dubbo Regional Council area and at this time of year extends to the Christmas decorations in the CBD,” Mr Watts said.

Vandalism costs Dubbo an average of $70,000 every year, which was money Mr Watts said could have been spent on  any number of projects in the city.

”Young people have been screaming for years about a shade sail over the skate park, that $70,000 could go a long way towards putting a decent shade structure over the skate park, among other things you could do,” he said.
