After just more than three months of tennis which began in early September, the top two teams from each competition clashed on the Paramount courts with prizes and bragging rights going on the line.
In the A grade competition, the Djokovic team of Nathan Astri, Emily Rath, Charlie Whiteley and Andrew Long proved too strong for the Hewitt team of Brad Williams, Lyndall Murray, Dan Allen and Cindy Connolly, who was filling in for Wayne Henry.
The match was a tense one with a tense five sets to three win which came down to the final match of the night.
We are really happy with how the spring competitions went and we saw some great tennis played.
- Paramount Tennis Club president Paul Handsaker
In the B grade competition, the Dunlop team comprising Mick McDonagh, Andrew Brown, Kerri Capill and Claire Joshua defeated the Wilson team of Mandy Wells, Karen Armstrong, Christine Sweeney and Judy Knapp five sets to three in an absorbing evening of tennis which was enjoyed by all.
In the C grade competition, the Cash team of Darren Kranias, Amelia Scifleet, Sanjay Chandran and Brenda Stevenson were able to outclass the Court team of Gary Goodman, Vicki Witheford, Ronnie Shanks and Jane Keys.
Players in all competitions enjoyed themselves, which was very pleasing and one of the most important parts of the tournament to club president Paul Handsaker.
“We are really happy with how the spring competitions went and we saw some great tennis played,” he said.
“It is pleasing the club can offer three different nights of tennis, so players of all abilities can come down, enjoy themselves, and play against opposition of roughly the same ability.
“Our next competition will be commencing in February, so all current players and people who are keen to start playing need to get their names down in January for those.”
The club also enjoyed its Christmas party last Friday night.
Paramount Tennis Club's next A, B and C grade competitions will begin from the first week of February.
All interested players are asked to register for the competition by mid-January.
Anyone seeking to take part in any of the competitions or wanting any more information is asked to please contact the club.
