St Johns Secondary College have celebrated a number of achievements in 2016 with students achieving excellence in many fields.
Agriculture
In March 2016, the College Livestock Team won Grand Champion Steer, Open Steer Champion, Reserve Champion Purebred Steer and Grand Champion Purebred Steer. The College Team also raised $8,500 for Melanoma from a Charity Steer they bred and sold. This was celebrated with Senator Fiona Nash and Mr John Cobb, Member for Calare at Parliament House.
Sister School Project
St Johns College welcomed 12 students and 3 teachers from Cilegon in Indonesia from 14-24 March 2016. The students and staff visited the Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo Gaol, Wellington Caves and a Mayoral Reception at Dubbo City Council. Mrs Andriske also held an Aboriginal Cultural Day in Wellington where students tasted local Aboriginal food and learnt about Aboriginal customs and traditions. Students from St Johns College will be travelling to Cilegon in 2017 on a return visit.
College performance High School Musical
In term 1, St Johns College staff and students presented ‘High School Musical’. This was a popular and somewhat nostalgic choice with students and they responded with enthusiasm and dedication. The Dubbo community thoroughly enjoyed the show. In July 2016 College Principal Mrs Kerry Morris attended Government House to attend the performances of the Moorambilla Voices Choir. Congratulations to students Zarek Berger, Jade Widdison, Georgie Saunders and Brianna Duncan for your selection.
National World Skills in Hospitality
In September 2016 Year 12 student Samantha Conte was awarded the Bronze Medal in the 2016 World Skills Australia National Competition VET in Schools Commercial Cookery competition. This is an outstanding achievement for Samantha and the hospitality faculty.
Sporting achievement
In March 2016, the Junior Boys Triathlon Team, consisting of Lachlan Sinclair (swim), Dylan Eather (cycle) and Lachlan Townsend (run) achieved second in the NSW All Schools Competition and an outstanding first in the NSW CCC (Catholic Schools) Competition out of 39 teams. Congratulations also to the Junior Girls Team (Grace Osborne-swim, Haylee Fuller-cycle and Brooke Galley-run), who were placed 7th in All Schools and 4th in NSW CCC competitions from 57 teams.
