Ollie Robbins Oval plays host to competitors from Orange, Bathurst, Mudgee and Cowra but local hopes are expected to be among the main contenders in both the men’s and women’s events.
“It’s our premier event for the year,” Dubbo club president Ian Crafter said.
“We expect a really good rollout. We traditionally get anywhere between 100 and 120 but this year we’ve included the enticer course as well as the sprint course.
“They will both contribute to the Interclub points so we’re expecting even more (athletes) this year.”
The sprint is made up of a 500m swim along the Macquarie River, an 18km bike ride and a 4km run.
The enticer consists of a 350m swim, 9km ride and a 2km run.
Crafter has high hopes for the local contingent but Julia Graham, who won in round one at Orange is in doubt, but she has a valid reason.
“Our champion from Orange, Julia Graham, gets married on Saturday so not too sure if she’ll make it but if she does she’ll absolutely be among the favourites,” Crafter said, before speaking about the conditions expected on Sunday.
“The river is not running as fast as it was but there’s still a handy flow and we train there twice a week so the Dubbo swimmers are well versed there so the times should be good.
“The cycle leg goes along the Old Dubbo Road and then the run is magnificent on the banks of the river.”
Sunday is expected to be warm and in the low 30s.
“We’re used to running in some warmth while Orange people worry if it gets a bit over 20 so its an advantage for Dubbo,” he said.
