The gritty top order batsman has been a mainstay of the Cougars RSL-Whitney Cup side in recent years but this season he has found himself spending time in the RSL-PInnington Cup.
That is largely due to the emergence of the likes of Brock Larance and the form of players like Tom Carruthers.
But with captain Ryan Medley and young all-rounder Ben Knaggs missing for Saturday’s clash with Macquarie, Ellis returns to the top grade.
“It’s a real positive for the club to have guys playing twos that are in contention to play firsts,” he said.
“And it’s the first time in a long time we’ve head that headache and it’s a good selection headache to have.”
Callan Braithwaite also returns to first grade as a like-for-like replacement for Knaggs.
“Young Cal has been playing exceptionally well,” Ellis said.
“I’ve seen him first hand and he’s batting with real maturity and he’s bowling great line and length.”
Macquarie will again be without opening bowler Jeremy Dickson, who has a hamstring injury. The Blues will be keen on a win after a last round’s loss to South Dubbo saw the defending premiers fall to last on the ladder.
Play begins in the 50 over match at 12.30pm.
