A century from Luke Patis was the highlight for the Blues, who piled on 2/215 and held on to defeat a gutsy South Dubbo Green by nine runs.
Patis lost opening partner Ben Walker (12) early and things were tight at 1/62 after 20.
Josh Wilesmith (31) departed after an 88-run second-wicket partnership before Jordan Fleming (49 not out) joined in the run-scoring and stayed there as Patis passed the century mark and finished unbeaten on 106.
The match seemed over when Souths Green was reduced to 6-60 but John Byrne (61 not out) and Pat Murphy (44) hit their side back into contention.
But the target was just too much, with Sam McLean (3/34) and Matt Ball (2/18) the standout bowlers.
Jackson Dawe starred with five wickets as Newtown Gold scored defeated Rugby Blue by one wicket in a fantastic match at Lady Cutler South 1.
Dawe finished with 5/36 from eight overs but Rugby Blue still scored a hugely imposing 9/262 overs, with Matt Naden (76) and James Rootes (69) combining in a 103 run partnership, while Grant Berryman made 70.
In reply, Newtown Gold’s top order got off to a perfect start. Kane Simpson made 44 while Mitch Gray (70) and Josh Battishall (65) kept their side on track. Berryman (3/51) and Naden (2/49) got among the wickets but a crucial 17 not out from Jack Bendeich got his side home in the final over.
CYMS White maintain a share of the lead after Shaun Townsend inspired the side to a convincing 57 run win over RSL-Colts Red.
Townsend made 63 not out in a classy 110 run partnership with Tom Coady (65 not out) and, combined with Marty Nelson’s 62, led CYMS White to 5/248 from 40 overs.
Mike Parish (2/19) and Ben Bruce (2/29) were the only multiple wicket-takers and their side made a strong start but scoreboard pressure was always an issue. Pat Cuskelly top-scored with 59 but Townsend entered the attack late on and took 5/31 as Colts was dismissed for 191.
A hard-hitting 62 from Shef Malik helped South Dubbo Gold defeat Macquarie White by 19 runs.
Malik’s efforts, as well as 30 from Asher Azam, helped the Gold Hornets post 8/161, with Evan McMullen (2/22) and Justin Gavin (2/38) the only multiple wicket-takers.
Sam Henry was the only batsman to fire in reply, again showing promise on his way to making 76 of his side’s 149. Jon Fuller was the next best, making just 12. Matt Wakely starred with the ball, taking 4/23, while Jack Lenord chipped in with 2/5.
Newtown Black was one of the biggest winners of the weekend, beating Rugby Red by nine wickets.
Don Skinner and Peter Peters took three wickets each as Rugby Red was dismissed for 140, and then Newtown Black cruised to the total.
Graham Baker made 40 at the top of the order but when he departed it was all but over as Brett Wrigley was powering his side towards victory. Wrigley finished unbeaten on 87 as Newtown Black kept the pressure on the top two.
CYMS Green showed why it is top of the ladder on Saturday, a solid all-round effort leading to a four-wicket win over RSL-Colts White.
Brian Carroll (3/21), Jed McIntosh (2/17) and Beau McIntosh (2/17) all impressed, with only Glenn Shields’ 25 from number 11 helping Colts to 119.
Andrew Moreton then played the anchor role at the top and finished 29 not out as his side reached the total with 12 overs to spare.
Shields’ 3/23 capped off a solid individual game and sent a few nerves through the Cougars camp but Paul Suckling hit 33 not out to seal the win for his side.
