The campaign encourages people to spend time and money in Dubbo’s CBD, through daily activities and the Christmas Elf promotion.
Monday also saw the unveiling of this year’s CBD Christmas flags, featuring locals who reflect the diversity within the Dubbo community.
“I think it just brings a strong sense of Christmas to the CBD,” Dubbo Regional Council’s Ignite program coordinator Nicola Chandler said.
“We’ve included over 12 cultures, eight community groups in addition to emergency services in the flags so there’s community ownership.”
Zumba instructor Tracy Hanna is among the local people featured.
“It’s surreal actually,” ‘Zumba’ Tracy said upon seeing her face on a flag.
“I’m most excited because the flag they’ve put me on is with Emily [Gardner] … who actually works with me.
“It was an honour.”
The Christmas elf will be back this year, giving out more than 70 gift cards to people supporting local businesses, while daily activities and performances will take place around Dubbo between December 12 and 23.
“It’s all about making sure people’s money is spent in Dubbo,” she said.
“The community Christmas wrapping station is another way people can support the local community.”
A new initiative, the wrapping station will give shoppers a place to take a break, and they can have their gifts wrapped for a small donation.
The funds will go towards the Country Women’s Association, Pink Angels and Bear Cottage.
