The annual event brings together motorcyclists from across the region for a parade in aid of the Salvation Army.
“It’s to get some toys for the Salvation Army...at Christmas to help out those less fortunate than us,” club president Jenny Humphries said.
“It makes a big difference to the Salvation Army and Lieutenant Mark Townsend expresses his appreciation every year.
“He says without the ride they wouldn’t have enough toys to go around.”
Last year’s ride raised $2000 for the Salvation Army, with the club hoping to collect even more this year.
This year’s event will kick off beside the Visitor Information Centre from 9am on Saturday, December 10, where the Lions Club will be on hand serving bacon and egg rolls.
Then from 10am, motorcyclists – complete with toys strapped to their bikes – will proceed across the Emile Serisier Bridge to Whylandra Street, across the L.H. Ford Bridge, and along Macquarie Street before proceeding to the Church Street rotunda via Talbragar and Brisbane Streets.
The event – sponsored by Golden West Holden and Holcim – will be followed by a social ride to the Narromine Golf Club, where the raffles will be drawn.
The club is hoping to see more than 200 motorcyclists in this year’s toy ride, to break its 180-bike record from about three years ago.
Ms Humphries said any rider with a registered motorcycles was welcome to participate.
She said other members of the public were invited to donate toys or cash on the day.
“Entry is...a gold coin donation,” Ms Humphries said.
“We have a raffle as well and the funds will go to the Salvation Army.
“We’re a social motorcycle club and helping the community is one of the things we like to do – aside from the obvious!”
Early donations can be delivered to Golden West Holden, with people urged to think of older children as well. For more information, contact Jenny Humphries on 0417 453 604.
