The Mach Three (CAN) x Halcyon Franco (NZ) gelding finished a narrow second to boom pacer Blue Moon Rising in the $30,000 Group 3 Chokin Stakes (1609m) at Menangle on Saturday night.
Despite three soft wins at Bathurst so far this season, Karloo Threeothree was unwanted by punters, who sent him around as a $33.20 chance in the seven-horse field.
But after settling rearwards early, driver Mat Rue was able to find the back of Theartofinfusion ($18.60, Darren Binskin) as the field set about chasing the leader Blue Moon Rising ($1.40, Lauren Tritton).
While their efforts were in vain, Karloo Threeothree got the closest of the chasing bunch, eventually being beaten by 1.2m in a mile rate of 1:53.0.
The gelding’s record now stands at three wins and four seconds from eight lifetime starts.
