Up to 400 students at Dubbo and Dubbo West public schools selected and took home a free book.
The unmissable bus is the means by which the Sydney Writers’ Festival rolls out its Children’s Festival of Moving Stories.
In 2016 the bus-cum-library has travelled further than Western Sydney and into country communities including Bathurst, Orange, Parkes and Dubbo.
The bus adorned with artwork drawn from the acclaimed Rules of Summer by Shaun Tan carries authors and illustrators of much-loved children’s books, who seek to inspire the next generations.
Sydney Writers’ Festival head of children’s programs Clare Sawyer said its mission was to “remind children that books can be a constant companion in life and a great pathway to the imagination”. “No matter what else is happening in your life, a book is a great companion,” she said.
