Bathurst’s Annette Gainsford won the Women Out West (WOW) Award for Outstanding Community Leadership - inspirational heart on November 26 at Dubbo.
Dubbo’s Jane Diffey, Lynn Field, Sue Egan, Donna Falconer and Veronica Gilpin, and Gilgandra’s Alfrene Wright were among the 11 other finalists in the category.
A Wiradjuri woman with ancestral ties to Wellington, Ms Gainsford lives at Bathurst.
She has developed an amazing history of achievements in the past 10 years and currently works as a lecturer in law and justice at Charles Sturt University, the award citation reads.
Ms Gainsford teaches indigenous cultural competency and works closely with the indigenous community and Wiradjuri elders in Bathurst.
She mentors others in the community, recently organising the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Leadership Day for the junior members in years 5 to 12.
She often speaks at women’s and education conferences.
Ms Gainsford is often found on weekends fundraising for community groups.
She has been a foster parent in the past and knits all year round for the winter warmth appeal.
“Annette is a beautiful, generous, kind and caring woman, mother and wife,” the citation said.
“She works hard to achieve her goals whilst helping others.”
