Moran starred for Western Zone during it’s triumphant NSW Country Cricket Championship campaign, scoring 244 runs at an average of 61 across the four matches played.
Western won the Country Championship final on Sunday when beating Central Coast by seven wickets.
On Monday the NSW Country side, the highest honour for players in the bush, was announced and Moran was the only Western player to make the cut.
However, incumbent NSW Country skipper Nick Berry and his brother Tim, who was man of the match in the final, were unavailable for selection, as was opening bowler Jacob McNaught.
“It’s what you play for,” Moran said of his selection.
“To play at the highest level cricket you can and when you get to the top you want to stay there.”
The powerful left-hander debuted for NSW Country last season, as the side won three of its matches and lost two at the Australian Country Championships.
The tournament will have a new look this season, with a full round of one-day matches being played before a number of Twenty20 fixtures.
“The approach will be the same no matter what,” Moran said.
“If you’re a good 50 over player you can transition it to Twenty20.”
And no matter what the format is, Moran will cherish wearing the baggy blue cap and taking on the b est players in the Australian country.
“Just it being another challenge and challenging yourself at the best level possible,” he said of what he is looking forward to the most.
Another thing the Rugby gun is looking forward to is having his family, wife Mellissa and sons Quade and Spencer, watching on. The Championship is being hosted by NSW Country this year and will be played at Wollongong from January 3-11.
Moran added he felt Greg Buckley would have figured in selection talks, as would have Bathurst’s new ball bowler Matt Stephen and Mitch Bower, who also played Country last season.
