Colts, playing under the Bob Berry Blasters moniker this Twenty20 campaign, defeated CYMS’ Western Plains Automotive Cougars by 27 runs under lights at No. 1 Oval.
The win was set up early on as the Blasters raced to 2/94 after 10 overs, with Chris Morton doing the bulk of the damage while Tim Howarth (30) and Wes Giddings (23) also chipped in.
Morton continued to pummel the attack, mixing big shots with quick singles, and his 74 not out helped his side post 6/180 from 20 overs.
The Cougars also began well, with Brock Larance and Lewis Matthews getting the side off to a flying start. The score was 67 in the ninth over when Matthews (26) departed and while Larance made 48 and Callan Braithwaite (26) helped take 36 off the maxi over, the challenge was too much for the Cougars, who finished at 6/153.
Sam Bass, Marty Jeffrey and Giddings took two wickets each in the win.
