With Parliament done and dusted for another year it was great to do some travelling around the electorate. On Monday I was joined by Minister for Health Jillian Skinner to reveal the next stages of Dubbo Base Hospital’s transformation. Last Friday I had the honour of opening the brand new TAFE Western Learning Resource Hub in Mudgee as well visiting Lue Public School where I got to meet the teachers, students and Lue community members.

Next Stages of Hospital Transformation Announced
Last week, the Health Minister, Jillian Skinner and I unveiled the schematic design and fly-through for the nest stages of Dubbo Hospital’s major redevelopment.
We visited the hospital to unveil the schematic plans and artist’s impressions of the $150 million Stages 3 & 4 redevelopment, also announcing that an integrated cancer centre will be built with the Stages 3 & 4.
Stage 3 – a new inpatient unit – will be built above the Clinical Services Building. Construction is expected to begin early next year.
Stage 4 will replace the existing emergency department and existing medical imaging unit. It will include a new emergency department and short-stay unit, new medical imaging unit, new critical care floor (comprising coronary care/stroke and intensive care units and a cardiac catheterisation laboratory), new ambulatory care unit, new renal unit, new main entrance, drop off zone and extra car parking.
The Stages 3 & 4 redevelopment follows the $91.3 million Stages 1 & 2 construction of the new Clinical Services Building, which was officially opened in January this year and includes six new operating theatres, a maternity inpatient ward, a birthing suite and a day-only ward for surgical services.
The community is rightly proud of Dubbo Hospital, which has always had fantastic staff and a great spirit and, under the Liberals & Nationals Government, is receiving first-class infrastructure to match.
Landmark occasion for Mudgee TAFE
I had the privilege of officially opening the state-of-the-art Learning Resources Hub at the TAFE Western campus in Mudgee, which will be a one-stop shop for students in the region to ask questions and gain access to these new services. It gave me great pleasure to open this new resource hub, where counselling, disability support, course and career information, library services and administration information will now be available. It is also an important development for Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the Mudgee Region, increasing the presence of TAFE and providing dedicated spaces for new interactive learning opportunities for students. It is another example of the NSW Government providing quality VET for students in our region. For more information visit: https://www.tafewestern.edu.au/current-students/student-hubs
2017 NSW Women of the Year Awards
The search has now begun for outstanding women to be recognised, with the nominations for the sixth annual 2017 NSW Women of the Year Awards opening last week. I am calling on the Dubbo electorate to nominate extraordinary women from all walks of life, who deserve recognition for their outstanding achievements and contributions to our community.
There are six categories open for nominations to honour the significant achievements of women in our community. Now is the time to nominate, so please don’t miss out on acknowledging a remarkable woman from our community.
