Back to Sydney for the final sitting week of the year. However it was good to be back in the electorate when I had the chance, where last Friday I attended presentations of the Stronger Communities Fund.

Funding bonanza for Dubbo and Wellington
I had the privilege of attending the Stronger Communities Fund presentations held in Stuart Town, Wellington, Geurie and Dubbo. Dubbo Regional Council have formally endorsed $350,000 worth of grants to 23 community groups and not-for-profit organisations following an extraordinary council meeting on October 17. The Stronger Communities Fund provided by the NSW Government to the new council has allowed the funding of both small and high value projects that will make a real difference to community groups and local organisations. All projects meet a community need and will be valued by the organisations and contribute to the social development of the community.
Some of the successful applicants include; Euchareena Village Progress Association Inc. who received $38,400 for the replacement of water pipes for a village water supply project, South Dubbo Cricket Club, who received $21,000 to construct two cricket nets at Lady Cutler East Park and Wellington Amateur Swimming Club, who received $15,293 for the purchase and installation of new electronic timing equipment. New regional development framework
This week I was pleased to welcome a new Regional Framework which was launched by the NSW Government to drive economic growth, business confidence and job creation across the area. This framework is the first of its kind, providing an overall vision across government for regional development, building on previous regional plans and laying a positive platform for the future. The framework aims to grow regional business confidence, create jobs and encourage business investment.
Regional NSW is leading the nation on jobs growth and this framework will help continue that positive trajectory by helping the Government identify further opportunities that can make a real difference to regional communities. Drug Innovation Fund now open
This week the Assistant Minister for Health, Pru Goward announced the commencement of the Early Intervention Innovation Fund. This fund will provide $8 million over four years to build the evidence base for early intervention models to support people at risk with a particular focus on young people using drugs.
It is a great opportunity for non-government organisations in the area to develop new and innovative ideas to increase and improve early intervention services for young people in the community. I encourage NGO’s within the community to apply for these grants so we can reach out to young people in our community and prevent them from going down the path of addiction.
2016 Christmas Card Competition
It’s now that time of the year where I am running my annual Christmas Card competition and am calling all primary school students from across the electorate to take part. To date, I have already seen some wonderful entries come through my office; however I would love to see plenty more roll through. The theme for this year is ‘Christmas in your community’ as we encourage students to illustrate what Christmas means to them where they live. Entries must be A4 in size and not include any attachments of items stuck to the entry. Entries must be received at my electorate office by November 25. Posted to PO Box 1327 Dubbo NSW 2830.
