Head To Toe and Southern Flight both scored victories, and both wins came in the respective horse’s first start back from a spell.
McCarney has been around the racing game for a number of years and some top gallopers trained by him have included the prolific winner Hail'N'Shine, raced by the late Bill Sheridan and the late Allen O'Brien, who is the father of Barry O'Brien, the owner of Head To Toe.
The first of four winners on the day for Cowra jockey Mathew Cahill, Head To Toe ($4.20 favourite) led all the way to win the Narromine USMC Maiden Handicap (1200m) from Not On Time (Andrew Banks, $12) and Lady Glycks (Clayton Gallagher, $9)
The four-year-old mare had previously run second and third in her two career starts before being spelled for 35 weeks.
Following a short break after a debut win at Forbes, Southern Flight (Mathew Cahill, $1.70 favourite) resumed at Narromine in the Handsaker Ford Class 1 Handicap (1100m) and raced past Scarlet's Choice (Daniel Northey, $6 ) and Lord Nick (Michael Hackett,$13) to record an impressive win and make it two career victories from two starts.
Owned by Craig Hardy from Young, Southern Flight is a promising type and along with Head to Toe will be set by McCarney for the 2017 Country Championships.
Fans of Cahill, and those who backed him, received a pleasant surprise when the Cowra hoop saluted on a rank outsider.
Dubbo galloper Hand Timed, trained by the popular Peter Nestor, took out the Agrigrain Maiden Handicap (1200m).
Hand Timed, at $26 at the track and $51.80 on the TAB, led throughout to beat Griffin's Gaze (Rachael Murray, $4.80) and Moqwao (Chris Williams, $5).
Completing a big day, the in-form Mathew Cahill gave Lake Lugarno ($2.10 favourite) a nice run on the rails and the very smart mare sprinted to victory over Malverna (Daniel Northey, $4.20 ) and Bonee Tess (Tony Cavallo, $13) in the 800m Bourchier's Fuels Class 3 Handicap.
Trained by Barry Molloy at Forbes, Lake Lugarno has recorded four wins and two placings from seven starts and is raced by Noel Leckie (Scone), Brian Nutt (Scone) Geoff Boal (West Wyalong) and Rod Mullavey (Albury).
