NSW Coroner Michael Barnes released his findings on Friday into Hughes' death during a Sheffield Shield match at the SCG in November 2014.

Hughes, representing South Australia, was killed by a Sean Abbott bouncer which burst an artery in his neck and caused a haemorrhage in his brain. He died in hospital two days after the incident.

Hughes' parents Greg and Virginia and siblings Jason and Megan released a statement on Friday night, having digested Barnes' recommendations and comments.

"Greg, Virginia, Jason and Megan accept the coroner's findings. They have noted the four recommendations made by the coroner and Cricket Australia's commitment to implement them," the statement said.

"They are deeply hoping that no other family has to go through the pain of losing a loved one on an Australian sporting field.

"As the coroner has noted, Phillip's death has led to changes that will make cricket safer. The Hughes family hopes that this will be part of Phillip's legacy to the game that he loved so dearly.

"They would like to sincerely thank the many people who have been in contact throughout and since the inquest."

Cricket Australia has tightened its safety procedures and how it handles blows to the head in wake of Hughes' death.

Barnes made four recommendations, although these did not include sledging. However, he hoped Hughes' death would prompt a rethink of how sledging, described as an "ugly underside" of the sport, was used.

His recommendations called for a review into what constitutes "dangerous and unfair" bowling; the need for cricket to work with helmet manufacturers to improve neck protection in first-class matches; the need for a daily medical briefing before play; and reviewing umpires' training in terms of how they can quickly call for medical assistance.

CA chief James Sutherland said the governing body would review the recommendations and continue to improve protocols.
