The annual fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is in its 25th year. Organisers hope to raise a record-breaking $3.8 million – or around 28,000 nights’ accommodation for families with sick children.
The day – Saturday, November 12 – will be celebrated at McDonald’s West Dubbo with live music and circus performances, a photo booth and a raffle.
Ronald McDonald House volunteers Fleur and Ronald Pors (store manager of the McDonald’s restaurant in Cobra Street) have also arranged a charity art auction, with the proceeds going directly to the Ronald McDonald House in Orange.
“I’m a volunteer at Ronald McDonald House and we wanted to come up with something to support the house in Orange,” Fleur said.
“We came up with the art exhibition in the store so that customers can place their bids and on the day we pick the winners.”
Local artists Karen Munro, Laura Holland, Halene Norris, Tracey Hockey, Alfred Stone, Prasong Johnson and A Mix of New and Old have all donated artworks.
The artworks are already on display in the West Dubbo restaurant, with bids being accepted in store from now until 6pm on November 12.
“I think it’s really nice to make a difference for a house that’s so close to Dubbo,” Fleur said.
People will also be able to purchase a Helping Hand for $2 or a pair of Ronald socks for $3, while $2 from every Big Mac sold will go to support RMHC.
“McHappy Day is the biggest fundraising event for RMHC and Helping Hands are a symbol of how RMHC programs are able to continue to provide much needed services and programs for families with children going through a serious illness,” RMHC chief executive officer Barbara Ryan said.
“It really is through the help of individuals who extend their hand, either through donations or volunteer work, that has made RMHC what is it today.
“Every donation, large or small, has a positive effect on families faced with a child’s serious illness. I hope the local community will...show their support.”
Corporate Helping Hands will also be available for businesses to purchase in $10 and $50 increments.
Local businesses will be able to post a Helping Hand in their local restaurant and will also receive another to display in their office.
McHappy Day celebrations kick-off at 9am on Saturday, November 12 at McDonald’s West Dubbo. Bids for the artworks are now being accepted in store with the auction closing at 6pm on McHappy Day.
