Seven volunteers from Dubbo Macquarie River Bushcare attended the inaugural Wumbuul Macquarie River Festival recently.
The volunteers helped about 60 children plant the shrubs from downstream of Sandy Beach to the River Gauging Station.
Macquarie River Bushcare volunteer Melissa Gray said they planted the shrubs to enhance the biodiversity along the path.
“We encouraged the children to bring mum and dad back to visit their tree, and give it a watering if it’s dry,” Ms Gray said.
“The kids learnt about the importance of native shrubs growing on the river bank, as they provide food for the native animals and fish.”
Ms Gray said it was a beautiful sunny day, the river looked fantastic and the event was enjoyed by all.
