The four-year-old won on debut for Waterhouse at Kembla Grange in February before running fourth at Newcastle’s Beaumont track shortly after.
But since then the progeny of Northern Meteor and Conquistor has enjoyed a long spell and made the move from the massive Waterhouse stables to the small team of horses trained by Mudgee’s Bob Howe.
And on Saturday Northern Conqueror will make his first start in country life under Howe at Dubbo’s Derby Day meeting, after the fields were released on Thursday morning.
The gelding will jump from barrier 11 in the day’s final race, the Milestone Hotel Benchmark 60 Handicap (1000m).
Anthony Cavallo looks set to be in the saddle of Northern Conqueror, Howe’s only hope for the day.
The Mudgee trainer will be hopeful Northern Conqueror will be able to repeat his debut effort, when he led for virtually the entire journey and lifted late on to score a tight win.
Cavallo is double booked for the event, also listed to ride Clint Lundholm’s Bulbadah.
Cavallo has a strong card on the day, with many of his chances being for local Dubbo trainers.
He will be aboard Clint Lundholm’s Tuncoona in the first of the day while he will also ride Lady Glycks for Justin Stanley, Butterfly Sky for Connie Greig and also Hungerford Wonder, again for Lundholm.
