Dubbo and District’s Twenty20 competition returns from 6.30pm next Friday, November 5, with more of an emphasis put on exciting play in the hope of attracting bigger crowds.

“There will be a maxi over, like what was played in the Regional Bash, where one over has the runs scored off the bat doubled,” local cricket association president Jeff Shanks said.

“So fours become eights but sundries like leg byes stay one.”

There are still some finer details to be confirmed in regards to the super over. It may be available anytime after the seventh over or it may on offer between overs seven and 16, Shanks said.

When choosing the super over, batsmen have the chance to call for it right until the bowler reaches the top of the mark for his first ball. That means the batting pair have the chance to look at the bowler on offer before choosing to use the “game changer”.

Crowd catches will also be introduced, starting at a $50 prize next Friday night when Rugby meet Christies Crackerjacks at No. 1 Oval, with the prize to jackpot each week if no catch is taken.

“We’re hoping to attract a few more people to the games,” Shanks said.

“There’s usually a lot of under-14s and juniors sticking around and they’ll be keen to get a catch and the maxi over will be really interesting.

“It will build a lot of excitement and it’s a game changer.”

Rugby and the Crackerjacks begin the season while defending premiers RSL-Colst kick off their campaign on November 18.
