$16.189 BILLION AUSGRID LEASE
The NSW Government has achieved another outstanding result in its infrastructure program, entering into a binding agreement with an all-Australian consortium for the partial lease of Ausgrid. The transaction will deliver $16.2 billion to the State and will help fund critical infrastructure projects as part of our $20 billion Rebuilding NSW plan. This follows our successful $10.258 billion lease of TransGrid. As the NSW Liberals and Nationals promised at the election, our poles and wires transactions are unlocking billions of dollars to fund new schools, hospitals, public transport and roads that will make a real difference to peoples’ lives. In Barwon this means that all the Water, Sewerage and Roads projects that we’ve committed to in the last 18 months are now completely funded. It means programs like Resources for Regions and Regional Tourism Infrastructure funds will be topped up. It also means we can get on with the Rural Hospitals program to increase service quality and efficiency in hospitals across our electorate.

BOTTLER OF A RECYCLING SCHEME
I am happy to advise that the NSW Government’s landmark 10-cent Container Deposit Scheme legislation successfully passed through Parliament last week. The Container Deposit Scheme’s introduction fulfils a key election commitment and will help reducing litter in NSW by 40 per cent by 2020. From 1 July 2017, community groups will be able to swap their cans and bottles for cash. The Waste and Resource Recovery Amendment (Container Deposit Scheme) Act 2016 paves the way for a cost-effective, best-practice scheme that will benefit both the community and the environment. Under the container deposit scheme:
People in NSW will be able to return empty prescribed beverage containers between 150 ml and three litres to collection points for a 10-cent refund.
A single Scheme Coordinator will be responsible for the financial management of the scheme and for ensuring the scheme meets state-wide targets.
Beverage suppliers will be responsible for covering the costs of refunds through agreements with the Scheme Coordinator.
The Environment Minister Mark Speakman will appoint the co-ordinator in early 2017, as well as appointing Network Operators who will be responsible for the operation of the scheme.
Containers not eligible are those generally consumed at home and not typically found in the litter stream. They include plain milk, wine, pure fruit juice (more than 1 litre), health tonics and large flavoured milk containers. Visit epa.nsw.gov.au/waste/container-deposit-scheme.htm
