Wilson missed the cut at the Queensland Open, won on Sunday by Brett Coletta, after going six over in the opening two rounds.
While it was a tournament to forget for Wilson, it was one to treasure for Coletta, who became the first amateur to win the Queensland Open since a 20-year-old Victorian by the name of Stuart Appleby won the tournament in 1991.
"I can't even explain how I feel at the moment, I am lost for words," said Coletta.
Wilson and fellow PGA players head to Stonecutters Ridge Golf Course next with the $400,000 NSW Open Championship played out from November 10-13.
After that is the major Australian PGA and Open tournaments, and Wilson is on the brink of qualifying having been a reserve at the New Zealand Open, which attracted a field similar to that expected at the majors.
