Now in its third year, the competition has grown into one which provides huge rewards for budding athletes, and this time around entrants from the NSW Western Plains region have a chance to meet sporting hero, GWS Giants netballer, Kimberlee Green.
The ultimate search for Australia’s most passionate young athletes, the Little Jetstars competition celebrates good sportsmanship and dedication amongst Little Athletics Australia participants with five lucky winners receiving an exclusive training session for them and 15 friends, led by one of Australia’s most well-known athletes.
Having each participated in Little Athletics growing up, Kimberlee Green is part of an elite group of Australian athletes who have been chosen as one of the Jetstar “Big Heroes” to lead the charge at training sessions all over the country.
Green is really excited to be involved in the program and to get back to her grass roots where it all began.
“Little Athletics holds very fond memories for me and is such a great start for any kid who loves sport,” said Green.
“I had a lot of fun in my days at St George Little Athletics club and it was a great excuse to stay healthy and get involved in the community from a young age.
“I’m really excited to be part of the Little Jetstars program and can’t wait to have a run around with the kids.”
Chief Commercial Officer of Jetstar Australia, Catriona Larritt, said her company was proud to be part of the campaign and added she wants to see it continue to grow.
Dubbo Little Athletics Club is one of 21 Western Plains clubs in the running.
As well as Dubbo, other clubs in the local region include Wellington, Narromine, Gilgandra, Nyngan and Coonamble.
The Western Plains stretches from as far west as Bourke and as south as Wagga, taking in smaller clubs such as Cobar and Coolamon.
The first of five Little Jetstars competition winners will be announced at the beginning of November and the remaining winners announced monthly through to March of next year.
With more than 100,000 participants across 540 centres, Little Athletics is a uniquely Australian program based on track and field events that is open to kids between 5 and 15 years, and Dubbo has always had a strong tradition and helped many kids stay active.
To enter the Little Jetstars competition, registered Little Athletics participants can head to www.littlejetstars.com.au and describe in 25 words or less, how Little Athletics will help them become a big hero.
The competition is now open, with entries closing February 28 next year.
