Wind gusts of up to 100km/h accompanied rain and hail, with talk of a tornado hitting the town’s racecourse.
The damage occurred about 7pm on Friday, when a supercell formed in various parts of the district, stretching from Parkes down to Young.
While Dubbo escaped with just rain, both towns were hit by massive hail and damaging winds.
Some reports had the hail stones as being 3cm in diameter.
Such was the force of the winds in Parkes, the racecourse grandstand was badly damaged while local trainer Sharon Jeffries also had damage at her stable complex, including a tree that fell onto a shed housing a horse float.
Thankfully nobody was injured, and while the horses stabled in the town would have been badly spooked there were no reports of any of them escaping or being hurt.
