Part one of Paroo Productions’ Wunderkammer will be screened at the Dubbo Fire Station Arts Centre at 10.10am on October 28 and part two at 1pm on October 29 with entry free of charge.
The documentary is a collaboration between Paroo Productions artistic director Sally Hopkins, Peter Aland, Sam Read and ARTLANDS artistic director Greg Pritchard.
Together they interviewed and filmed 13 residents from different walks of life who are “bound together by their love of Dubbo”.
Ms Hopkins’ curiosity drove the project.
”As a Wiradjuri woman I love living on country and when I walked down the street I wondered what stories the people here had to tell,” she said.
What the 13 interviewees had to say influenced the naming of the documentary.
“Wunderkammer is a German term used for a cabinet or a room filled with highly-valued, curious items,” Ms Hopkins said.
“The people who we interviewed for our documentary had remarkable stories and we needed a name their stories deserved.
“So Wunderkammer was born.”
Ms Hopkins expects tears and laughter at the screenings.
“We have found so many fascinating people to be interviewed there may be another Wunderkammer soon,” she said.
