Toomey has recently relocated his Pound For Pound gym to a larger location as he continues in his role of fitness instructor and also boxing coach.
The likes of Ayla Barker, Ray Fuller and Enja Prest are just three of the local boxers have all benefited from his expertise in recent times.
Toomey was crowned a national champion when winning an Australian lightweight title in 2014 and also held the IBO Welter Weight Oceanic belt for a period of time but says he now focuses on training.
“It’s another side of it that I like and I love it,” he said.
“I just try and show them where I went wrong and try to make improvements in them to make it easier for them to come through.
“There’s some who start from a young age and then we go up to whatever.”
Toomey said he is enjoying life in the new gym, where he works alongside veteran trainer Graham Wallace.
Wallace says “there’s no one better” than Toomey when it comes to training, and Toomey himself is gearing up for a busy period of boxing for Dubbo pugilists, starting this weekend at Yarrawonga.
“And we’ve got the Australian titles next month so we’re looking forward to that and hoping they can all go well. And we’ve got a fight night in December at the Garden. It’s an amateur night so all the guys here will be in and others from other gyms around Dubbo too so it will be good.”
