When taking over in October of 2013, Meredith said he would stay in the top role for three years but he had little hesitation in staying on for a fourth when the club held it’s AGM last weekend.
“There are a couple of things I would still like to do,” he said.
“I guess there’s some future plans for the club and things are progressing in the right direction but all those things take time.”
Meredith’s time in charge had been dogged by off-field controversy and on-field struggles but he began to right the ship last season and the Raiders finished second on the Group 11 ladder.
The club has had to endure the John Grey walkout in 2013 and the Jeremy Smith off-field accident and the first side missing finals in 2014 but Meredith said last season proved the club is back on track, and now the only thing left for him is a premiership.
“Obviously from a personal point of view you’d love to be the head of a club that wins the premiership, that would be the ultimate and that’s what’s kept me interested,” he said.
Meredith also pointed to the club’s current stability both on and off the field as something which has kept him interested and he is keen to see that continue after praising all those on the committee.
While Meredith holds the top job, Steve McLellan is senior vice president while Michael Perry is the junior vice president.
Meredith’s wife Liz remains as treasurer while Nikki Daley is the secretary.
“We’re in a good place and I’m happy where we are from there and also from the playing group.”
“There’s a lot of depth and there’s culture and there is a nice feel. It’s nice to get those positive comments back from around the community.”
In terms of the playing group, Meredith has a number of focus areas.
“You’ve got to have that (depth) to be successful,” he said. “We intend to work on promoting ourselves in fitness and professionalism and we want to keep on nurturing our juniors.”
