’Learn and Grow’ features photographs by the clients highlighting their individual experiences with mental health.
The exhibition was officially launched Wednesday night at Dubbo’s Alchemy Art and Food Hub.
The clients spent Wednesday getting pampered before getting dressed in their best suits and beautiful dresses.
Mission Australia Program Manager with Housing Accommodation Support Initiative, Brittany Boniface said
“Mission Australia held two photography workshops in partnership with Westhaven and put this concept to clients. It was refreshing to hear how they have learned and grown during their mental health journey,” said Ms Boniface.
“During our discussions, recurring themes included recognising triggers, positive self-talk as well as using the tools they know assist towards a greater sense of wellbeing. Clients were then able to imagine how these concepts could be captured in a photo with ideas resulting in incredible photos, including images of a still lake or the sun shining behind railings.”
The artwork will remain at the cafe until Monday. Ms Boniface said it would then be moved to Community Mental Health for Stress Less Week.
It would hopefully encourage people to think about their own mental health journey, Ms Boniface said.
The organisations said they wished to express their thanks to the cafe for exhibiting the photographs.
