Dubbo Regional Council manager horticultural services Ben Pilon said the platform was a partnership between Japanese gardeners from Dubbo’s sister city Minokamo and council.
“This project has seen a mix of both Australian and Japanese styles incorporated, which portrays the relationship of our sister city,” Mr Pilon said.
“Structural components have been constructed using Australian timber, (hardwood Iron Bark) to allow a longer lifespan, it is also a more structural timber compared to the Japanese Style timbers, as they are more a soft wood which wouldn’t cope in our environment.”
The bamboo balustrade, design and installation techniques were all Japanese, Mr Pilon said, taught to council staff during their recent visit.
Construction began on the platform on September 24 but was delayed by the rain.
The addition would be a huge benefit to the community and visitors to the city, Mr Pilon said.
