The Orana Relay for Life will take place on November 5 and 6 at DCL Park.
It’s the tenth year anniversary of the relay in Dubbo, and this time there’s a fundraising goal of $60,000.
Cancer Council western region community relations coordinator Katherine Hodges said there were 245 people who had already signed up for the event.
“We’re up on last year so we’re going to exceed 450,” Ms Hodges said.
“I think it’s just because it’s ten years, and our committee have been campaigning really hard.”
For the first time in Dubbo, the Cancer Council won’t be the only charity to benefit from the event.
Usually, the lanterns used during the Hope Ceremony were weighed down with sand, but this year Ms Hodges said they would be encouraging people to bring cans of food.
The cans will be donated to the Neighbourhood Community Kitchen.
“People are giving to us so it’s good that we’re giving back to them as well,” Ms Hodges said.
There will also be a six-foot high flying fox at the relay, enabling people to fly across 50 metres for a gold coin donation.
Participants will able be able to tackle the Dubbo Army Reserves’ inflatable obstacle course, a push up challenge, have their face painted and be entertained with live music throughout the two days.
Last year more than 420 participants in Orana joined the Cancer Council’s Relay for Life, and raised $55,615 providing vital funding towards the Cancer Councils ongoing fight against cancer.
In Dubbo the funding is used for numerous programs including Transport to Treatment which helps transport cancer patients, Eat it to Beat It which teaches parents about packing nutritious lunches for their children, and the community speaker program.
