CYMS Green youngster Callum Giffin became the first person in season 2016/17 to score a century when he made 119 not out for the Cougars in the third grade Kelly Cup on Saturday.

Griffin’s knock was the undoubted highlight as CYMS Green scored a convincing 100-run win over Macquarie Blue.
Giffin carried his bat through the 40 overs and combined with Joe Jackson (62) in a 122-run stand which set up the 2-223 total. Macquarie Blue only managed 123 in reply, with Nilesh Solanki’s 30 the top score.
The figures of 1-9 may not seem like much but it was enough to send Paul Brandon into raptures on Saturday as it was the South Dubbo Green man’s first wicket in more than five years of playing.
He was also in the middle when his side scored the winning runs, as the Green Hornets defeated Newtown Gold by two wickets.
The Gold Tigers posted 6-148, with Josh Battishall’s 53 the best, but the Hornets just got the job done and finished at 8-152, with Brandon making on 2 not out.
RSL Colts Red veteran Glenn Armstrong proved he will be a force again this summer as he made 97 in his side’s incredible opening day tie with Rugby Blue.
Needing 189 for victory, Armstrong led the way but his side fell short of victory. With one wicket in hand and six runs needed off the final over, Armstrong could only score five as he missed out on a century and the win in what is sure to remain one of the matches of the season. Matt Naden had earlier set up Rugby Blue’s imposing total with a well-made 82.
Matt Toole was a key player for CYMS in the most recent Group 11 season but he showed on Saturday he may also be a force on the cricket field, hitting 91 in his side’s 106-run win over Macquarie White at Bob Dowling 4. Toole top scored in his side’s total of 7-263 before White was dismissed for 157.
The round’s final match was an enormous 205-run win for Newtown Black over South Dubbo Gold. Kevin Newbold (74 not out), Brett Wrigley (69) and Graeme Allen (58) all starred with the bat as the Tigers made a huge total before the 10-man Gold Hornets were rolled for just 59 in a disappointing loss.
