Canya Touche and Cher Keeping finished first and second in the hotly contested race to give the trainer plenty to smile about.
Roberts’ partner Shayne Stiff said it was nice to take the victory and had capped a successful weekend for the trainer.
“We had quite a few winners over the three days and Charmaine has a good record with four wins in the maiden final,” he said.
“The time of 17.22 [for Canya Touche] was a flying run for a young pup and all things being equal he will have a run at the Leslie Ann Leonard Memorial,” he said.
Other impressive performances during the finals meeting on Monday afternoon included Alan Pringle’s Crimson Sally in the $2500 Global HR Final and Little Nangar in the $3700 Facebook Friends of Coonamble Final.
NSW opposition leader Luke Foley was at the meeting to show his support for the industry and presented Roberts with her winning trophy.
“Luke was there for the whole day, 28 races, and interacted with everyone from owners and trainers, through to kids and grandparents,” Stiff said.
“He enjoyed himself and I think he probably helped some greyhound people to see a different side of politicians.
The Calcutta was another drawcard over the weekend with $10,000 for first prize and it was won by Sydney bookmaker Mark Stollery.
