The central western region is calling all fishers who enjoy wetting a line to come together for the National Gone Fishing Day, with fishing trips, events and activities being held across Australia.

A series of fishing workshops, casting competitions, and fishing tip classes will be based at Sandy Beach for the Dubbo event, and run by the NSW DPI.
Sofala branch of Central Acclimatisation Society will be running a Gone Fishing Day event in Bathurst on Sunday October 16, with the event starting from 7am at the bridge near Eglinton and finish up at 3pm.
Activities include a fishing competition with a weigh in for carp and redfin, catch-photo-release for golden perch, silver perch and freshwater eel-tailed catfish, and a section for the longest trout.
Anglers can fish any of the local streams or impoundments like Ben Chifley, Oberon, Lake Lyall, Wyangla, Carcoar,Windamere as long as they are registered and back before 3pm.
Other activities are kids fishing clinics at 9am, 11am and 1pm, fly fishing lessons from members of Fly Fish Bathurst from 9am, Clean Up Your Fishing Spot (bags provided), and some tree planting from 9am with Bill Josh from Habitat Connect.
Terry Steele from DPI Fisheries will answer questions about compliance and advise about the importance of fish habitat for a healthy fishery.
There will be ample opportunity to meet members of local fishing clubs and organisations and find out how to become involved with fish stocking and fish habitat projects around Bathurst.
Eglinton Public School P&C will be running a barbecue and raising money for their students Schools Spectacular event. All money from the barbecue will go to the school.
Register with a $5.00 donation and go into the draw with over 150 great fishing prizes to be given away even if you don’t go fishing.
First prize in the day’s big raffle will be an ENGEL 38litre camping fridge freezer, second prize a 41 litre COOL ICE esky, third prize $50 BCF gift voucher, fourth Supercraft tool box, fifth Rod & reel combo.
Tickets $5 each.
All donations & profits from the raffles will go to improving fishing in the Macquarie River around Bathurst via native fish restocking and fish habitat projects.
A $5 donation will enable the purchase of either 13 Murray cod or 22 golden perch via the dollar for dollar Native Fish Restocking Program.
