On his new album Diesel pays tribute to the artists that inspired the musician he would become by putting his own unique stamp on a collection of iconic songs.
Each song is a bona fide classic, wholly deserving of care and attention so as not to tread on the toes of musical history, but it was equally important for Diesel to add his own new spin to songs such as Queen Jane Approximately by Bob Dylan.
Diesel said he was looking forward to playing to Dubbo audiences.
“I don’t think you could ever discount regional towns from a tour,” he said.
Although Diesel usually plays with his band, he said he was looking forward to the solo shows.
“I love both - playing solo and in a band,” he said.
“It certainly keeps things interesting.”
On this album Americana, Diesel said he wanted to make an album of the songs that he remembered and listened to while growing up.
“It’s kind of like a scrapbook of my life,” he said.
“I’ve got 7 siblings and I’m the youngest so they were always bringing home records.
“Listening to music with my headphones on was a sanctuary to me in a house with so many people.”
Diesel said one of his favourite songs to perform form the album was Bruce Springstein’s classic Born to Run.
“It's just got so much epicness to it,” he said.
To give his own take on the music he loved so much, Diesel remixed the songs on the album, including Johnny Cash’s hit Ring of Fire.
Diesels solo tour will kick off in early October in Sydney and he described the feeling as greeting an old friend.
“I find I really connect with audiences on solo tours,” he said.
“Of course you still engage with them while playing with a band, but when you walk out on stage it’s just you and them.”
Diesel will perform at the Dubbo RSL on Saturday, October 15.
