The Dubbo District Concert Band invited budding young musicians to try their instruments on Sunday in an attempt to attract more students to the group.

Conductor Neill Ryan said the band performed for the audience to at the Dubbo RSL to show them what it was like in a band, before the kids were able to take part themselves. They were also given the opportunity to be a conductor.
“I want to get more people interested in music in the community,” Mr Ryan said.
Mr Ryan said they were hoping to encourage more interest in music to allow an intermediate band to be established.
Although there were some younger players in the senior band, Mr Ryan said there was a hole between the young band and the skills required to join the experienced group.
