Mr Grant was on hand on Monday afternoon to inspect the new and improved clubhouse, which benefited from a $15,000 NSW government Community Building Partnership Grant.
The funding was matched by Dubbo Regional Council, Dubbo City Swimtech and Orana Aquatic Swim Club to pay for the new paint job, kitchen and air-conditioning.
Volunteers also worked tirelessly over the past nine months, holding working bees to pull out the old kitchen and paint the clubhouse.
“To give them a clubhouse gives them a learning space and hopefully through that they can increase participation in swimming, which is one of the healthiest sports,” Mr Grant said.
“It adds to the quality of the pool offering, which you need in a regional centre like Dubbo.
“[Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre] is well renowned so you’ve got to have the facilities to meet the standard.”
The clubs also hope to be able to offer more lessons to people with a disability, which Mr Grant said was a key part of their grant application.
Club members also volunteered their time to get the work done, which Mr Grant said made the state government’s contribution all the more rewarding.
“People put their hand out all the time, but groups like this just want a hand up.”
