As many as 200 golfers will flood Bathurst for the annual stroke event come March next year, the first time the city has hosted the Golf NSW event.
The club revealed the coup on Monday morning, with the Golf NSW pitching the championship to Bathurst Regional Council during recent talks surrounding water conservation at the Bathurst course.
The senior championships, which is for golfers aged 55 and over, is the main lure for council, with the regional qualifying stage for the 2017 NSW Open to be staged in Bathurst later in 2017 as well.
“It’s fantastic. We’re really appreciative of the support we’ve received from council,” secretary manager Brad Constable said.
“A lot of the golfers competing are top of the tree; guys that have been really strong at an amateur level and can still hold a handicap.”
