St John’s product Yeo has become an NRL regular at the Penrith Panthers but it was the club’s current youngsters whose names were up in lights during the Dubbo and District Junior Rugby League grand final day at Caltex Park on Saturday.

The under-12s decider was an entertaining clash and St John’s managed to hold off a determined and fast finishing Jets side.

“It’s a good brand of footy to watch,” victorious coach Townsend said.

“There’s no real structures, they just get out and play so it’s pure footy and good to watch.

“They all love it and that’s what it’s all about.”

Keaton Butterworth scored a double in the win for St John’s while Rory Madden and Doug Foley also crossed.

Madden and Nik Seton also chimed in with a conversion each.

Aidan Bermingham, Michael Kent and the impressive Hunter Gillespie scored for the Jets but St John’s centre Will Malloy was a standout and was named man of the match.

Townsend was pleased with the performance of all his players and said his club was determined to keep on developing talent.

“We’re trying hard and trying to put things in place to get the next superstar or Isaah Yeo to play in Sydney,” he said. “Hopefully we can keep developing them and get another Isaah Yeo playing in a semi-final down at Sydney in a couple of years.”
