The consistent heavy rain which started in the early hours of Sunday morning left Racing NSW stewards no option but to abandon what was shaping as a bumper meeting.
The track was deemed unsafe for racing but Racing NSW immediately gave Dubbo Turf Club the opportunity to race on Monday.
However, the rain also has that rescheduled meeting in doubt.
“It’s a slim chance,” Gordon said.
“It’s the Gold Cup day and we’ve been on a bit of a roll so it’s disappointing, you can’t downplay it, it’s very disappointing.”
Gordon added one pleasing thing was a number of trainers who had travelled were staying in order to race on Monday. All prizemoney, fields and race start times remain the same on Monday, should it go ahead.
