In an open event, Fancy Nangar ($3 favourite) got across from box seven early to sit towards the front and she powered home late to win one-and-a-quarter lengths.
“Last start was about three months ago in Grafton,” Ann Barnes, wife of trainer Dennis, said.
“She came into season and this is her first run back after that.
“I was feeling alright but just with the seven box I wasn’t sure if she’d get across or not but she handled it well and I was really pleased with her.”
Just Like Jazz ($3.80), who led for the bulk of the journey, finished in second while Michael Curtale’s Tango’s Express ($5.10) was third.
It was part of an early double for the Barnes’ after Nangar Bear ($1.20) won the third race of the day.
