A selfless mother, daughter and friend and hardworking businesswoman, who owned Adams Newsagency with her husband Michael, she was adored and respected by family, friends and customers alike.
The loving mother, daughter, wife, friend and newsagent died at Lourdes Hospital on Friday, September 9 aged 46, after a year-long battle with esophageal cancer.
Mrs Adams will be farewelled in a service at Dubbo’s St Brigid’s Catholic Church at 1pm on Friday, September 16, followed by burial at the New Dubbo Cemetery.
Katrina Joy Adams was born on the Central Coast on November 14, 1969, to parents Paul and Yvonne Leecount, who at the time ran the Long Jetty Hotel.
Her knack for business began at a young age, with Katrina opening a coffee shop straight after finishing school at Muswellbrook High School.
Katrina was also a devoted wife, partner and mother. She and her first husband, Scott Barnett, were blessed with four beautiful daughters: Jessica, Cassie, Karlee and Kristi.
The next chapter of her life took Katrina to Mendooran, where she and her partner Wayne Murray were blessed with the gift of Emily Murray, now 12 years old.
She worked for ten years at the newsagency in Mendooran, before moving to Dubbo after meeting Michael Adams.
The pair met on an online dating site, and Michael said they hit it off immediately.
They were married on April 16, 2011, and Michael said Katrina embraced his daughter Megan Adams.
Katrina and Michael bought the Macquarie Street newsagency in February, 2014, and Michael said she was as dedicated to their business as she was to her family.
“She was very soft-natured. She would put everyone else in front of herself, she was very selfless,” Michael said.
“The kids, me, everybody else would come before herself.
“She was very hard-working...she was very well liked and respected so she will be missed.”
Just three months after her diagnosis, Adams newsagency sold a Division One winning lottery ticket, which Michael said really lifted her spirits.
“A lot of people asked about her, and of course once she was sick everybody asked ‘where’s Katrina’, Michael said.
“They would always ask how she was going with her treatment.”
Katrina leaves behind daughters Jessica, Cassie, Karlee and Kristi Barnett and Emily Murray, as well as her husband Michael Adams and parents Paul and Yvonne Leecount.
