Landcare Australia says landcarers grow our food, look after our environment, care for our coastlines, and protect our native animals. National Landcare Week was created to celebrate our hard-working Landcarers, who are fostering a better environmental future for all.
Tessa Jakszewicz, CEO of Landcare Australia, says this is a great opportunity to recognise the effort and dedication of everyone involved in Landcare.
“Being a Landcarer is about participating in activities that better our land and coastlines,” Tessa says.
“You don’t have to join a group or be a member of some sort of club to be a caretaker of the land, and that’s what we’re trying to emphasise during National Landcare Week and at our upcoming National Landcare Conference.”
The theme of this year’s Landcare Week ties in with the theme of the conference and awards (held in Melbourne from September 21-23), which is Collaborative Communities – Landcare in Action.
The conference and awards celebrate the achievements of national Landcare champions and the Landcare community.
Landcare Australia says awards will be handed out to nine outstanding Australians for their tireless efforts in their various works and projects.
A great way to get involved is to vote in the People’s Choice Award category for your favourite Landcare hero out of this year’s 69 finalists.
This is an amazing opportunity to support Landcarers who are making a big difference in the community and beyond.
You can vote right up until the day before the awards. Voting closes at 6 pm. (AEST) on Septembe 21. Visit nationallandcareconference.org.au/awards to vote.
The National Landcare Awards are being delivered by Landcare Australia in partnership with the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme and the Victorian Government, and are sponsored by Fairfax Media, Indigenous Land Corporation, and ManpowerGroup Australia.
