Despite that, coach Dean Matthews has played the underdog card heading into Saturday’s major semi-final against the Orange Emus at Endeavor Oval.
Anyone in our 15 could play first grade but Emus are the same.
- Dean Matthews
“They’ll be strong at home but the pressure is on them playing there in front of their fans,” he said.
“We’ve got nothing to lose and we’ll just go out and play our game and hopefully the bounce of the ball goes our way.”
While it is the Roos who have been the main attraction this season, scoring 191 more points than anyone else and conceding 54 less, Matthews is adamant his side aren’t raging favourites for the title.
In one of the most high-quality second grade competitions in recent years, the likes of the Roos, Emus, Parkes Boars and Bathurst Bulldogs have all featured players who wouldn’t look out of place in first grade.
The Roos are the best example of that with the likes of Shaun McHugh, John Korff and Anthony Golding all expected to play on Saturday.
“Anyone in our 15 could play first grade but Emus are the same,” Matthews said.
