The major thoroughfare in East Dubbo was closed or partially closed for four months while the road was widened and boom gates installed to improve the safety of the street.
But less than a week after all four lanes opened to traffic, the road has had to be closed southbound after a burst water main damaged the road surface.
Western Plains Regional Council (WPRC) notified residents of the incident on Tuesday afternoon, which occurred near, but not within, the construction footprint of the recent upgrades.
Council crews had the water main repaired by 10pm on Tuesday, and worked until the early hours of Wednesday morning to repair the road surface.
But on Wednesday council’s manager works and services Ian Bailey said the impacted area would be inspected again on Thursday morning, amid concerns the the burst main and wet weather may necessitate further repairs to the road surface.
That inspection found road pavement damage as a result of the water main break and the recent wet weather.
The two southbound lanes will now be closed between Douglas Mawson Drive and Birch Avenue, with a detour along Sheraton Road, until at least early next week.
Repairs are planned and will be carried out as soon as the weather improves.
Access to Tradelink and Kennards is still available from Mountbatten Drive with inward traffic only from Wheelers Lane northbound.
