The 2016 edition marks the fifth running of the Stampede, which is held in the scenic grounds of Taronga Western Plains Zoo.
“Just over five years ago, a small group came together to talk about a new running event in Dubbo,” Stampede president Tim Ferraro said.
“A core group came away from that meeting with a vision to create the Dubbo Stampede.
“Fast forward to today and the Dubbo Stampede has cemented itself as a signature running event.”
Organisers have released a few pointers to help things run smoothly for competitors and volunteers alike.
- Allow at least 30 minutes to get to the zoo, and an additional 30 minutes to get to your event.
- Obley Road will be closed from 6.15am-10.15am on Sunday, although access to the zoo from the Newell Highway will not be impacted.
- Competitors are urged to not park outside the zoo unless specifically directed to do so.
- Race kits can be collected on Saturday, August 27 from 12pm-5pm at Taronga Western Plains Zoo. The zoo closes at 5pm so collection can’t be done any later.
- Out of town runners unable to collect their bib on Saturday can do so from 6am on Sunday.
- Merchandise is available but must be ordered online. Merchandise ordered prior to August 14 can be picked up on Saturday. Any merchandise ordered between August 15 and September 3 will be posted.
The Stampede comprises of four events, the 5.5km Dingo Dash, the 10km Cheetah Chase, the 21.1km Zebra Zoom and the 42.2km Rhino Ramble.
- The event will commence at 7pm when the marathon runners take off on their 42.2km journey.
- The Dingo Dash will start at 7.30am while the Zebra Zoom will commence at 7.45am.
- The Cheetah Chase will be the final event to start, with the 10km participants taking off at 8.15am.
